Live Training & Education
To support the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct's ("the OCRSM") main mission of fostering learning and working environments free from all forms of discrimination and harassment, the OCRSM conducts compliance training presentations, both in person and virtually, on a variety of topics for offices, departments, and student groups across campus. From July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023, the OCRSM conducted a total of 127 compliance training presentations and trained an estimated number of 3,754* students, staff, and faculty across campus on topics related to Title IX and civil rights education and response.
* This number is related to customized live, in-person/virtual trainings and does not include the completed mandatory online trainings.

* Presentations and training topics ranged from the OCRSM overview, UMD Title IX/Civil Rights overview, supportive measures overview, pregnant and parenting student resources, and others.
** The OCRSM facilitated a variety of trainings and presentations for groups on campus on topics such as healthy/unhealthy relationship signs, setting boundaries and practicing open communication, the "isms" in the workplace and navigating difficult situations in the workplace, and others, upon request.
Campus-Wide Awareness Events
As part of its educational and outreach initiatives in the last year, the OCRSM hosted, sponsored and/or participated in a total of 43 campus-wide events. This included tabling at resource fair events, co-sponsoring campus-wide initiatives, and facilitating workshops. These initiatives reached an estimated number of 6,200 students, staff and faculty.
* The OCRSM participated in and/or sponsored events with campus partners such as the Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC), Campus Advocates Respond and Educate to Stop Violence (CARE), Title IX Student Advisory Board (TIXSAB), Bias Incident Support Services (BISS), Graduate Student Government (GSG), One Love UM, Rights & Responsibilities (R&R) at the Department of Resident Life, and others.
** The OCRSM participated in campus-wide initiatives such as Maryland Day, My Maryland Fair New Student Orientations, new student orientations and resources fairs hosted by a variety of colleges and departments in the beginning of both the Fall and Spring semesters, New Faculty Orientation Information Fair, Graduate Student Welcome, Fall Welcome FreeFest, First Look Fair, Quelcome, Self-care Fair, and others.
One signature event that the OCRSM hosts is "Tea with Title IX." This is an annual meet & greet event during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) in April that welcomes the campus community to stop by and interact with the members of the OCRSM while enjoying refreshments. For this event in April 2023, the OCRSM prepared 75 self-care kits for participants that attended to take home.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) April 2023
Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is an annual national campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence. The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee ("SAPC"), which is co-chaired by Campus Advocates Respond and Educate to Stop Violence ("CARE") and the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct ("the OCRSM"), leads and gathers representatives from student organizations and departments across campus to come together and create a calendar of events for this campus-wide initiative. Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) October 2022
Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is an annual national campaign to unite advocates across the nation in their efforts to raise awareness of the potential signs of domestic violence. The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee ("SAPC"), which is co-chaired by Campus Advocates Respond and Educate to Stop Violence ("CARE") and the Office of Civil Rights and Sexual Misconduct ("OCRSM"), leads and gathers representatives from student organizations and departments across campus to come together and create a calendar of events for this campus-wide initiative.
Workshops Hosted by the OCRSM
In collaboration with One Love UM, a student organization on campus that focuses on spreading education and awareness of the signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships, the OCRSM hosted a series of hour-long lunch & learn workshops for the campus community during the fall and spring semesters of the 2022-2023 academic year.
Each lunch & learn workshop focused on a different theme, and the interactive workshops allowed for conversations around healthy and unhealthy signs for different types and aspects of relationships.
