Online Sexual Misconduct Training Completion
Online Training for Undergraduate Students
"Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates" is a 45-minute online sexual misconduct training course assigned to all first-year and transfer students at the beginning of their first and second semesters. This course is designed to help ensure that all incoming undergraduate students learn more about topics related to Title IX, civil rights, and the rights and resources available to them. This course also engages undergraduate students in fostering healthy relationships and prepares them to recognize and respond to sexual assault and harassment when it occurs.
Online Training for Graduate Students
"Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students" is a 45-minute online sexual misconduct training course that informs graduate students of the non-discrimination and sexual misconduct policies at the University of Maryland. In addition, this course is intended to help students learn more about topics related to Title IX, civil rights, and the rights and resources available to all graduate students. All incoming graduate students are required to complete this online training module during their first semester on campus. Graduate student training also covers reporting obligations for Graduate Assistants as Responsible University Employees (RUEs).

Table Summary: For the 2023-24 academic year, 71% of a total of 13,087 new students (undergraduate and graduate) completed the required training course assigned to them. Out of the 9,395 new undergraduate students, 74% completed the required online training course, "Sexual Assault Prevention for Undergraduates," within 30 days of being assigned to this course. Additionally, 62% of a total of 3,692 new graduate students completed the required online training course, "Sexual Assault Prevention for Graduate Students,” within 30 days of being assigned to this course.
Online Training for Staff & Faculty
All new University employees are assigned the "Preventing Harassment & Discrimination: Clery Act and Title IX" training course. This course includes two tailored approaches that are assigned depending on the role the new employee plays in the University, these being categorized as "faculty and/or non-supervisory staff" or "supervisory staff." The courses employ evidence-based best practices that aim to create a healthy and inclusive workplace culture as well as contain specific sections that cover Title IX and Clery Act policies. These courses last between 2.5-3.5 hours to complete, depending on whether the employee is categorized as "faculty and/or non-supervisory staff" or "supervisory staff." Supervisory staff and faculty are also assigned a supplemental training module, "Accommodating People with Disabilities," which covers an overview of disability discrimination laws and best practices for navigating requests for accommodations. This course lasts around 45 minutes.

Table Summary: For the 2023-24 fiscal year, 76% of a total of 2,179 new employees (non-supervisory staff, supervisory staff, and faculty) completed the required training course(s) assigned to them. Out of the 1,073 supervisory staff and faculty that were assigned to the course "Preventing Harassment & Discrimination: Supervisors + Clery Act and Title IX," 75% completed this course. As for the supplemental training course, "Accommodating People with Disabilities," 79% of the 1,128 supervisory staff and faculty assigned to this course completed it. Out of the 1,106 non-supervisory staff that were assigned to the course "Preventing Harassment & Discrimination: Non-Supervisors Clery Act and Title IX," 77% completed this course.

Student Experiences & Environment Survey (SEES)
The Student Experiences & Environment Survey ("the SEES”) is a biennial campus-wide climate survey sponsored by OCRSM and the School of Public Health (“SPH”). This survey aims to assess the scope and nature of sexual assault at UMD, identify effective means of intervention and prevention, and inform our campus’ response to sexual assault intervention and prevention efforts. The SEES launched in Spring 2024, from February 11 to February 25. The survey was sent via email to 10,000 randomly selected full-time undergraduate students. A total number of 2,675 undergraduates completed this survey, which resulted in a response rate of 27%.
OCRSM created a strategic marketing plan and partnered with a variety of campus organizations and departments to advertise the occurrence and importance of the SEES survey among undergraduate students. *Instagram was the main social media platform that was utilized to post advertisements around SEES. OCRSM partnered with organizations and departments such as the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, CARE, One Love UM, Preventing Sexual Assault (PSA), Student Government Association (SGA), and others to post advertisements around the survey via social media.
**Campus newsletters hosted by departments and organizations were mainly utilized to post advertisements around the survey. These departments and organizations included, but were not limited to: the Office of Diversity and Inclusion, CARE, Department of Fraternity and Sorority Life (DFSL), Fostering Terps Success, the LGBTQ+ Equity Center, the Department of Resident Life, the Department of Transportation Services, and others.
In addition to administering postings and newsletter advertisements, OCRSM, in partnership with campus student leaders in the Student Government Association (“SGA”), created a series of videos to promote the SEES. This video was a part of the strategic marketing plan OCRSM created to spread awareness of the SEES to the campus community. This video was posted on the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s Instagram page (@diverseterps) and reposted by partnering organizations and departments. The video served as an introduction to the SEES and was posted two weeks ahead of the launch of the survey.

This video was a part of the strategic marketing plan OCRSM created to spread awareness of the SEES to the campus community. This video was posted on the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s Instagram page (@diverseterps) and reposted by partnering organizations and departments. This video described the steps to access and complete the survey. It was posted on the first day of the survey’s launch.

This video was posted on the Office of Diversity and Inclusion’s Instagram page (@diverseterps) and reposted by partnering organizations and departments. This video aimed to enhance students’ voices on the survey’s importance and featured several campus student leaders detailing the reasons why they completed the survey.
Educational Outreach Efforts
As part of outreach during the 2022-23 academic year, OCRSM created a series of infographics that were aimed at summarizing critical parts of the office, services offered, and initiatives for students, staff, and faculty to have easy access to information they need. During the 2023-24 academic year, OCRSM reviewed and updated these infographics to ensure consistent and up-to-date communication around policies and resources. In addition to these infographics, OCRSM created a variety of resources for Responsible University Employee (RUEs) to serve as support for staff navigating reporting responsibilities that are part of their role on campus. Currently, OCRSM offers the following infographics and resources: OCRSM Brochure, OCRSM Overview Handout, OCRSM Overview Graphic, Supportive Measures Overview Graphic, Campus Resources Overview Graphic, Pregnancy and Related Conditions Resources Graphic, Policy and Procedures Overview Graphic, One-Page Summaries of Key Policy Provisions, and Resources for Responsible University Employees (RUEs). Campus Partner and Student Groups Involvement & Collaboration
Sexual Assault Prevention Committee (SAPC) and Involvement
The Sexual Assault Prevention Committee ("SAPC") is a committee of stakeholders on campus, led by CARE and OCRSM, who meet monthly to implement and coordinate the University of Maryland’s sexual assault prevention plan. "Raise Your Voice" ("RYV") is a University-wide sexual assault prevention and awareness campaign that is sponsored by the SAPC. The RYV campaign seeks to empower students to challenge norms that create environments conducive to sexual violence and to make choices that create a safer UMD campus. SAPC committee members host a variety of programs throughout the year as part of the RYV campaign.

In addition to events hosted for the "Raise Your Voice" campaign, the SAPC leads the programming efforts and initiatives for Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) every year. Title IX Student Advisory Board Involvement and Collaboration
The Title IX Student Advisory Board (TIXSAB) was established to create consistent communication between the student body and OCRSM on institutional responses to sexual misconduct and related policies and procedures. This board is open to all students from various campus organizations and student groups as it serves as a forum for students and OCRSM to identify and bring attention to areas related to Title IX that affect the student body. The establishment of a TIXSAB acts as an outlet to ensure students’ voices and perspectives from a variety of spaces on campus are heard and considered when it comes to the University’s response in addressing Title IX and other forms of misconduct reports.
One Love UM Involvement and Collaboration
One Love at the University of Maryland is just one chapter out of many that support the national One Love Foundation. The organization was founded in 2010 in honor of Yeardley Love, who grew up in Towson, Maryland, and was killed as a result of domestic violence. Yeardley’s family created this foundation to provide every individual with the knowledge and tools necessary to engage in all types of healthy relationships— personal, platonic, romantic, and professional. The Training Manager for Policy and Prevention for OCRSM advises the UM One Love Chapter. Together, they collaborate to host interactive, conversation-based workshops that provide vocabulary and resources to deconstruct real-life scenarios and encourage students to reflect on and implement healthy relationship behaviors in their everyday lives. They also plan various workshops, tabling events, and fundraisers throughout the year that promote the idea that all Terps can learn how to love better. The UM One Love Chapter is open to all students who are passionate about educating their peers on healthy versus unhealthy relationships.
